You think the Deer Valley Resort in Park City, Utah, is all about skiing? While the area is certainly popular for winter sports, there are way more fun and exciting activities to do! Whether you’re visiting on your own, with your children, or with your partner, you won’t get bored while staying at the Deer Valley Resort.
Located just 58 km east of Salt Lake City, the alpine ski area was one of the venue sites for the 2002 Winter Olympics. Besides this, regular competitions for the International Ski Federation are held at the resort. However, the Deer Valley Resort is not only about skiing.
Summer Concerts
The Deer Valley Resort is home to the magnificent Snow Park Outdoor Amphitheater. Here, you can enjoy one of many unique concert series. Not only the Deer Valley Concert Series takes place at the amphitheater but also two nonprofit concerts: the Utah Symphony’s Deer Valley Music Festival and the Grand Valley Bank Community Concert Series.
Bring your own picnics, blankets, and low chairs to enjoy the concerts with 3,500 other guests in front of incredible mountain views. Additionally, you can choose from a variety of gourmet picnic bags. Of course, gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan options as well as children’s picnics are available. The picnics should be ordered by 5:00 p.m. the day before the concert.
Scenic Lift Rides
What better way to enjoy the beautiful view than on a leisurely chairlift ride? The Silver Lake Express will bring you from the base up to mid-mountains. From there, take the Sterling Express to Bald Mountain.
At the top, you have an incredible view of the surroundings. Enjoy the refreshing alpine air or take a walk on one of the many hiking trails, before taking the lift back down.
Mountain Biking
Enjoy the breathtaking view while riding your mountain bike. The Deer Valley Resort offers 6 mountains with about 70 miles of mountain bike tracks. To access the tracks, you can use one of the 3 chairlifts. Some of the tracks are even connected to Park City's extensive 400-mile track network.
In case you’re new to mountain biking, you can participate in private mountain bike lessons. A special highlight are the Twilight Rides, which take place throughout the summer months. Every Tuesday, the extended lift hours give visitors the option to right their bikes while the sun is setting and it is absolutely gorgeous!
Hiking
The Deer Valley Resort offers miles of beautiful hiking-only trails. You can either start from the Silver Lake Village area at mid-mountain or take the Sterling Express all the way up to the top of Bald Mountain. Here, you will find even more hiking-only trails which will offer you stunning views.
In case you’re eager to learn something about the area’s history and its unique fauna, you can participate in one of the private guided tours. A knowledgeable guide will show you around and give you interesting facts. The private guided tours will take about 2 hours.
If you’d like to learn more about the area’s mining history, you can choose one of the guided historical tours. For 3 to 4 hours an experienced guide will lead you through the area and explain its significance for mining.
Stand Up Paddling
Stand Up Paddling is one of the number one activities for a hot summer day! At Pebble Beach, you won’t only find a sandy beach but also calm waters without any boats, perfect conditions for Stand Up paddling and kayaking.
Here, you can rent an inflatable SUP for a day and explore the area on your own. The conditions are perfect for people of all ages and experience levels.
Skiing
Skiing is, of course, a must on our list of things to do at the Deer Valley Resort. The area offers 2,000 acres of varied terrain and an uphill capacity of more than 50,000 skiers per hour. Enjoy the unique skiing experience and the incredible view of snow-covered mountain peaks.
Would you like to go skiing with an Olympic snow sport athlete? Here at the Deer Valley Resort, you have the chance to go skiing with one of 7 athletes, such as Heidi Voelker. There are also guided ski tours with one of the available Mountain Hosts. Not only will the guides show you the resort’s grounds, but they will also give you lots of interesting facts about its history.
Snowmobiling
Are you looking for an adventure? If so, you should not miss out on the opportunity to go snowmobiling in the Deer Valley Resort. Enjoy the beautiful scenic views while riding on a snowmobile through the various snow covered areas.
The tours start at Garff Ranch, which is located 8 miles from Historic Main Street in Park City. A guide will accompany you on your adventure and show you the best sites.
The Royal Street Cafe
After exploring the area and participating in so many exciting activities, you will most definitely work up an appetite! Check out the Royal Street Cafe at Silver Lake Lounge. Here, you can enjoy creative American and international cuisine while dining on a scenic deck with a stunning view.
At the restaurant, you will find everything from fresh salads to delicious desserts and refreshing seasonal cocktails. Children can choose from a special Children’s take-out menu.
